Why did you just use a 3.5mm to RCA cable? The deck surely has some sort of input.
this particular deck does not have rca input.

I went with this JVC deck because it has two USB connections.

i went with a WiFi only model because it is cheaper, no contracts, and i simply tether through my iPhone via Bluetooth. My thinking is that if I went with a wireless model i would always be restricted to that service, whereas by tethering through the smartphone, which i renew every year and a half or so, i will have scalability to always have the latest internet speeds, e.g. 5G or 6g in the future. There is no speed difference whether you tether to your smartphone, or use direct wireless service.

Well that isn't very handy for this install :lol2:
actually it is because i used the front usb for the bluetooth dongle, and the back usb to connect to my iphone.

You cannot connect the Samsung Tab directly to the aft usb because it wont charge the unit. It will however charge the iPhone and I suspect the iPad as well.

I have been reading that Apple is working on a 7 inch iPad which would be a better platform over the Samsung Tab because of this USB issue, but i would bet that JVC is probably aware of the growing android market and will make future models more android friendly.

...and don't count out a mobile windows 8 tab...i heard samsung is working on one of those too.

makes sense, except i wonder how maps would work without service - if i had to take a call or something and it shut down the tether....

There is an internal gps in the Samsung Tab so it does not need to be connected to the internet to navigate.

...unless you are using the Waze app or something of that ilk, which is social media and navigation together...you chat with other drivers.

a phone call does not interrupt tethering.

you can, but i hear the range on those are fickle. Bluetooth is very low power. Having it stick out a little on the face of the JVC is a better position for the Bluetooth antenna.

Built in Bluetooth units tend to favor receivers in front of them. My TAB is mounted above and ever so slightly behind the front of the JVC. To get to the TAB the RF Bluetooth signal would have to go through the metal cage of the receiver, which would want to act like a Faraday cage and ground the signal, making for a weak connection. I am not saying the built in wouldn't work.
