Wow you drove 3 hours and got stood up? CL is so sketchy but the good deals are definitely there...The ad looks pretty legit though.

Maybe he just forgot? Looks legit. At least he has a phone number listed. If he didn't, I would be worried. I have had pretty good success with CL. I sold my Skylark there for 6k after having it posted for only a few days.

I couldn't find much on the guy, other than he does exist, lives in the Houston area, and has sold a Silverado in the past. Sorry man.

ok guys, sorry... I forgot to subscribe to my own thread... I read online and then talked to some people that say the crooks will lure you to an area with a pocket of cash to buy a large item, then they show up acting like someone lost looking for directions, or something and they use this to check out the situation, if they then feel safe they rob you if not they haul butt and dont look back...

I spoke to him several times over the few days prior to us meeting
3:00 pm I called him and let him know I would be in his area at 6. he told me what store to meet him at (a gas station), i told him what I would be driving and he said he would be in the white BMW, then he corrected himself and said Tahoe.
5:30 pm I texted him and told him I was almost there, he replied and said "see you there"
I sat there until 6 before I Called him, no answer, it rang three times and went to VM, the VM was just Latin music and then a beep.
6:05 a car pulled in and was scoping us out, I had my wife, her niece, and two kids in my truck. so when I noticed them watching I checked my weapon and stepped out of the truck, I carry concealed but I had a glock 45 full frame on my hip with a semi tight t shirt over it so the imprint was massive. they did a double take and split.
I have tried calling him about 300 times and have yet to get a answer, three rings and VM.

Short of him getting killed on the way to meet me there is no reason for this.. I did not try to beat him up on the price, I told him I thought it was a fair price if the vehicle looked as good in person as the picture and I would buy it. I was the fool meeting a stranger at a gas station with Z$6k in cash in my pocket and another $2k in the truck. I planned on driving directly to 4 wheel parts and getting some rims and tires..

Sounds like you did everything right, and maybe got lucky. I'd chalk it up as a missed opportunity and move on. Good situational awareness; I'd probably have done the same thing. You can't really dictate where to meet people when buying something like this, but a public place is a good idea. You can only control certain things, like the location of your money and who/what you bring with you. I treat every sale/buy like it could turn bad, and plan ahead. I do try to get the person's last name ahead of time, do some internet stalking on them (FB, Spokeo, 411 etc) to confirm they are who they say they are, and leave all the info written down at home in case the worst happens.

Maybe the guy has a valid excuse, but IMO, there will always be another truck; you only have one family.

That was my thinking as well.

My wife was mad that I was getting out of the truck but without me getting out and reaching into the back of my truck he would have never been aware that I was armed, able and willing to protect myself and my Family.

I was furious and in fact I still am but I think I got a good deal on the one i bought so I am happy.
