I have a 07 Tahoe and got 41K.
Dealer told me that I need diferencial service, transmission service (oil exchange only) and fuel injection service. All this comes to between $900-$1000.
They said there is tools they hook up to pump all the oil out before pouring new oil. Has anyone done this and should any of it be touched in the first place.
On my previous vehicles, I have not done any of these and they lasted well over 100k before I traded them in.
Please help clerifying this for me,
Thank you!!!!

Take it to another dealer. There is NO reason to be doing all that under 50K. It wont hurt, but that is how dealerships make their money. Doing a tranny service and diffs that early in that Tahoes life is a waist. I would wait until 50K and do a tranny and diff service. I would do the fuel injection service at 100K.

Don't believe anything a service "advisor" tells you, or the guy at the quik-lube place either. Read the manual - if it isn't in there, don't do it.

Your tranny uses Dexron VI, full synthetic, and shouldn't be recommended until 100K.

Your Differential may need service if you have used it to tow a lot or always have your foot on the floor. Ask to see what the fluid looks like (or check it yourself).

Most manufacturers recommend fuel injection cleaning once a year or every 15K.

At 40K, the things we usually come across at my shop is basic maintenance on Tahoe's. Air filter, fuel filter, alignment, just the basics.

Yah, thats way too soon. Unless your really ******* it or if its been in water. Id try another dealer, there are a few that try to screw ya, but there are good ones too. Every thread about dealers always brings up blanket negative statements like we've seen on here already, but the dealer knows your car better than independent or especially a quick lube. Ask around, find one you can trust. If your close to Northeastern PA, I'll introduce you to one. haha

I would take it to a shop and have the diff fluid checked (dark=bad) and you can make the decision. If it were mine, I would change it out regardless and use synthetic.

As for the tranny fluid, I would change it out at 41k. My manual says 50k for an 02 if you want to go by that, I use full synthetic Mobile One and I still do my tranny every 25-40k and it's about $120-150 at a lube shop or you can easily do it yourself. It's generally a good idea to change both out every 25k or so for "optimal" performance. As for absolute necessity, go with the manual recommendations.

Again, it is personal preference and what you want to get out of the vehicle. For example, I do my oil at 2500 miles, seafoam every 3-5 changes, engine gunk cleaner every 5 changes, and it comes out relatively clean on every change :)

There's nothing more important than fluids in your vehicle...

The dealer is trying to pad his wallet with services that you do not want or need.

My suggestion to you is to take it to a local mechanic with a good reputation and have them do the service for you.

I have replaced fuel filters with 100,000 miles on them that were still as clean as the day that GM put them on.

The front axles usually has a synthetic oil inside of them that leaked and I replaced mine with a semi synthetic oil and had no problems.

The Transfer Case Fluid can be changed, since I wouldn't suggest you driving it more then 60,000 miles between fluid changes.

The transmission filter can be changed around 50,000 miles.

You could also get the rear differential oil changed around 50,000 miles.

But for a reputable dealer to tell you gloom and doom, just to make $8000 is not the way to do business.

I would report him to the better business bureau and to GM.

Fuel injection cleaner is nothing more then a scam.

Gasoline already has detergents inside of the fuel which helps to clean the injectors.

Pouring stuff in the tank simply washes all the varnish out the the tanks and lines and moves them to the filter and injectors.

The engine only fuel injection service kits, does little to clean the injectors - unless you have a problem, I wouldn't waste my money on them.

The Avalanche I sold the other day had almost 150k on it and never had the injectors cleaned and it would pass everything but the gas station.

Bone stock with no catalytic converters and would run a consistent 13 sec quarter mile.

BTW, most expensive as hell "fuel injector cleaning" service offerings are nothing more than fuel injector cleaner run through your tank. The cans cost $4 to $9 at Walmart. Ask some of the guys that work at dealers on this board and they'll tell ya ;)
