The service suspension system message has been popping up sometimes on my 2009 Denali w/ 40k miles. The air pump does come on when the message doesn't show up so its time to get to the root of the issue.

I have a ScanGaugeII but it won't pull the Chassis code. Has anyone had luck pulling the code from a tool that O'Riellys or Autozone has? Obviously I don't want to have to go to the dealer for them to charge me for pulling the code.

Also, does the message have to be up for the code or is it stored like an engine code?

I had mine read with a Tech II scan tool while the warning message was on the DIC. Not sure if they are stored if the warning isnt present at the time. I do know the fastest way to troubleshoot this type of suspension issue is with the right scan tool. There are multiple parts that make up the system-odds are you need a replacement compressor. They have a high failure rate. Is it loud when it kicks on? You can find them online on Amazon or through a company called Arnott Industries....
Lots of threads on this issue as well....

Its fairly loud when it kicks on and I can hear it work harder when the pressure is higher right before it kicks off.

I live in North Dakota so the pump unit has seen a lot of snow in its lifetime. The Arnott options seem to be the way to go if it is more then a wire that has corroded. First I'll try to get the code but it looks like Tech II is a GM specific tool so that would make sense why it would work.

Sounds like its going to be your compressor. Its probably cheaper to pay for the compressor, install it yourself than to take it to GM just to pull the code.

The error message wouldn't pop up last night but I tried anyways to pull the code with a reader from O'Rielly's. No such luck so I'm not sure if their code reader wouldn't get a chassis code or if the code isn't stored and must be pulled while the DIC is showing the message.

Looking to find out which software I can use with my PC connected scan tool. I had the suspension message about a year ago but I knew the air pump was running long and loud so I had to replace both rear air shocks with arnott units and the pump itself. Got the system working again and no message.

Well until today that is. Wtf?!

So pump doesn't kick on and I get the message. Want to know if the pump is causing it or the shocks. I have Active shocks. If the front shocks failed would the rear air pump still kick on?

How can I scan for codes?
