Why is this...... cause the tire is super hard to stretch on the wheel?

Not exactly sure ... it sounds like it's a combination of the ultra low profile and the characteristics of the Michelin Cup run flat tires. I can try to find the threads if you really want me to.

This has actually become a bit of a serious issue because of the recent weather, and GM despite Michelin's and their own guidelines, let the cars sit in below freezing temps outdoors in BG and even drove many of them onto the transport trucks and trains. This resulted in a huge batch of Z06s being delivered with cracked tires. (you're not supposed to put extreme summer cup tires under load under a certain ambient temp). The tires themselves are backordered so GM dealers are scrambling to not only find replacement sets but also trying to find local shops to mount them because most of them can't do it themselves.
