i am looking for a little more "umph" out of my hoe. i already have a vette servo and still am not happy with the shifts. it is a 95 TBI so a bb tune or anything like that is out of the question.

i have been told by someone close to me who i trust very and who is mechanic for 40 years with a racing background, that a shift kit is more likely to kill your tranny because of the harder shifts. not asking if it true or not , btu more of why this is.

if i do decide to go with a kit would i be better off with a transgo hd-2 or this B&M http://www.jegs.com/p/B-M/B-M-Shift-Improver-Kit/747997/10002/-1 what are the reasons? not trying to be a pain in the ass , just want the knowledge also any experiences with these would be nice!

honestly wouldnt waste money on a shift kit. It definitely wont kill your tranny. It will improve the wear rate on the clutches, but for the most part its mostly just a kit filled w/ a bunch of springs and BS. If i was going to spend the money on installing a kit i would just run a mild sonnax kit and upgrade the weak 4l60e parts like the TCC valve body w/ a new apply valve/sleeve and bore kit.

I have a B&M, its not going to kill your tranny it actually prolongs the life of it. I don't think its worth the time to put in. When I had the 20" rims with falken low profile tires it really changed hard. I can still get 31s to chirp in second if I gun it. It is fun at times but a pain to put in like 6 to 8 hours.

Don't do it. Try and find a 4L80E GM Transmission and spend your time on that instead. That would be WELL worth it.

Guys, your steering this guy wrong.

A GOOD shift kit is a great addition to your transmission!

It increases line pressure , lets the trans shift faster Thus reducing heat, which is easier on your trans.

Youll get the nice, crisp shifts you want with a GOOD shift kit.

The factory shifts are slow causing heat which destroys your trans, especially when you add more power!

Stay away from B&M and TCI, their stuff is junk.

You should Get a TRANSGO shift kit. They are good kits.

Actually a better kit has just came out from the Son of the Transgo owner ( who designed the transgo kit, but cant get along with Dad, )

Its called RATIO TECH and has just came out.

Its whats in my trans. Great kit. Google INGLEWOOD TRANSMISSION and Talk to MIKE L. , He built the first 700R4 in the country back in 82' And is THE BEST out there.

But if your going to tear apart your trans than Like 99 coop said its a good idea to upgrade the internals.

But I bet you 100$ you put a good shift kit in and you'll love it.

I totally agree with this. The reason so much heat is created with the stock tranny is because the clutches are actually slipping to give you that soft smooth shift, thus creating friction and where there is friction, there is heat!! I rebuilt my tranny completely including all high performance "hard parts" like the planetaries, reaction shell, alto red eagle clutches, band, one way bearings, 13 vane oil pump etc. But adding a shift kit to a stock tranny is the best thing you can do to it, granted it isnt too worn out. I have installed shift kits in trannies with 80-100K miles with no problems, as long as the tranny wasnt slipping or already damaged.

Just my .02

dont get me wrong shift kits are good for the transmission and improve wear rates as well as performance. I ran a mild shift kit in my tahoe as well, but with a transmission like the 4l60e i would consider upgrading weak parts either before or in addition to a shift kit because thats where you will see the biggest improvements.

my trans is perfectly fine ight now, it just shifts imo way too smooth. it does not slip and there are no torque converter problems either,i just wanted a faster and firmer shift. so i will look into the transgo . thank you very much guys!!
