Hi all. Newbie. First problem , 1994 2 door Yukon doesn't want to downshift unless I really put my foot into it and then it usually downshifts more than it should. Also , slight hesitation when starting out , a little better when cold. Did a tune up yesterday ,not much of a change. Plugs , cap , rotor etc. Probably play with the timing today. Thanks

check your fuel pressure. I hope you mean setting the timing correctly as playing with it will screw things up. as for the tranny it may be skipping a shift valve or a pressure in a hydro circuit is off. does the engine light function properly? is it on at all?

Timing is electronic in these trucks if you don't have p1345 code I wouldn't mess with the timing. +/- 2 from 0 I think is as far as you can go without throwing a code. As for the shifting I'm having my own trans issues different from yours but with your symptoms I'd definitely have the trans Checked. How many miles are on the trains btw?

inapplicable in this case as far as the engine goes. he does not have a vortec engine that uses obd2 codes. he has a tbi system that uses obd1 codes.

Yes , just checking/setting the timing.

There's 180,000 on the truck motor was gone through before I got it ,what I was told anyway. Can't remember anything about the trans.

I don't know about the check engine lite. Been thinking about that over the weekend.

Can I check codes with a odb2 scanner?

Haven't figured out how to quote yet. I didn't know that sunlit I thought all the Tahoe and yukons had the same motor setup. Glad I joined this forum I'll learn a lot here. Sorry for the misinformation just trying to help out.

negative ghostrider. you must have an obd1 compatible scanner or use the terminal shorting technique.

same size but in 1996 in the u.s there was a major change to the various system used in all vehicles sold in the u.s. as required by federal law. in effect a lot changed for the engine as well in 1996

Should I see that light when I start it? I'll have to look in the morning.
