Are those the Nivomat? If you have the ZW7 premium Smooth Ride, you can get these for way less: http://www.partsgeek.com/mmparts/shocks/chevrolet/tahoe.html

thanks but when i clicked your link it didn't find the part, just took me to input what kind of vehicle i have. can you tell me the info - I am 2WD with ZW7 code.

i found a pair of used ones for 200 bucks on ebay. how difficult is the install on these, do i need a spring compressor etc. is there a specific diy for this somewhere? would GMC dealer install these for me, if i order them myself (it'll be the exact part #), or where else will install these? pep boys capable of doing it? thanks

Just scroll down after clicking the link- the first shocks to come up are the ones for the ZW7 rpo code. They are made by KYB and I have no experience with them.

"Product SKU: SR2003

Product Note: SR Series -- w/ ZW7 Premium Smooth Ride Susp. (Exc. Z55 Autoride Susp.); Recommended OE Replacement"

What's weird is if you click the link that's by this shock, it takes you to a different shock. But you can just oreder them there or search for them elsewhere using that part #. The original Nivomat's are really expensive from what I've heard- like $600 I think? I don't think they're hard to replace but I've never done it. Any reputable mechanic should do it for you. As far as used shocks, I wouldn't bother with that.

I wouldn't consider lightly used if they did t cost 600 bucks a pair. They seem ok, just noticed one had a little fluid on it when I was changing the rear brakes. For 180 bucks, I'm considering the slightly used pair since I'll also have to pay somebody to install them

There's YouTube videos on changing our shocks; you should check them out. It's pretty easy- jack one side up, put it on a jackstand and loosen the upper and lower shock bolts then jack up the suspension on that side until the bolts don't have any tension and remove the shock. The hardest part is probably the top bolts on the inside. Your shocks don't even have air hoses or wiring connectors I don't think. Either way, labor should be pretty cheap. But yeah , your shocks are expensive like mine were.

DONT use "used" shocks. Bad idea. Install them yourself. its like 2 bolts per side.

shocks are easy to replace there just mostly grunt work i definatly recomend an impact wrench if you got one i do not recomend using yer bottle jack that came with the vehicle
save it for emergancys cuz i used mine and not only does it wear you the hell out
it also broke on the last shock while the vehicle was stil loff the ground so i had to rock it off the jack
