Shock extenders needed for 1.5"-2" front leveling kit?

I'm adding a 1.5" or possibly 2" leveling kit(lower spacer under strut assembly) to my '07 Yukon Denali. I've seen some kits come with just the spacer and the 4 bolts/nuts but, others include a "free" shock extender. Is this shock extender even needed?

I checked with RCX, who seems to be the most common, and they don't include a shock extender.

Also, I have aluminum lower control arms. RCX sells one kit for aluminum, and one for steel. Most of the kits I'm looking at are 6061 billet aluminum. Any issues here?

Sounds like the spacer you want to add connects between the strut connection point and the top of the strut. By shock extender, do you mean the front struts or rear shocks (just to clarify)?

IMO you do not want to over extend the front struts because it can potentially damage the CVs and other components.

They would be beneficial for the rear if you get larger coils or spacers, but you want to make sure brake lines and other items can accommodate that travel. Should be ok for 1 to 2" of extra travel.

After I posted this, I realized there is no way to "extend" the shock on the front since it is a strut with a coil spring. The ad that had this was on ebay so I'm guessing it was incorrect.
