I have a 2004 Yukon XL Denali that I bought last summer. It is in really great shape and I plan on keeping for awhile. Unfortunately, the air suspension compressor went out and I am deciding on replacements for the entire system. I don’t yet know where the leak was that caused the compressor to run too long and go out but I figure it is best to replace all of the shocks since they are all the same age.

I should probably mention that I will use the Yukon XL to tow fairly often. In fact, my in-laws are letting us borrow a travel trailer that is ~7000lbs.

Because of this I would like to hear suggestions on what shocks I can have installed to help it tow that large of a load as safely and comfortably as possible. I do plan on adding Helper Bags (airlift 60769 from amazon), lots of you have suggested this and it makes complete sense. I have also started a list of other mods (Bigger Transmission cooler, BB Tune etc.) but I want to focus your attention on what shocks would do the best for heavy towing.

It appears from reading on the forum these are the most common shock replacements although I would certainly like to hear additional suggestions.

1. Arnott aftermarket kit
2. OEM equivalent Monroe 40044
3. Bilstein 5100

I am not interested in lowering or raising the suspension by much. Also, thanks for all the great info posted here! I have been lurking here ever since last summer ;)
