Ok...so we really dig the 05 yukon XL we got a couple months ago...really really dig it.

the dealer we got from just took on trade an 04 SWB yukon. same exact color, same wheels, only thing is its an SLT and our XL isnt. So its got leather where ours is cloth. the price is awesome on it and best of all its got 44k miles on it.

we are getting 13mpg avg out of my tundra right now...we are getting almost 17 avg out of the yukon XL. my lease is almost up on the tundra, meaning i'll be buying it (which has been the plan all along) OR the dealer made me an awesome offer on it, where i'll pocket a good chunk and we can get this yukon for a payment about 300 less than the truck- payment next to nothing with the tundra on trade.

so, should i do it? would it be weird to have a yukon and yukon XL? like his and hers? i'd have her drive the SLT because its got leather and captains chairs second row so it would be easier for her...and i would drive the XL and have it for trips etc when we needed the 3 rows AND space behind the 3rd row....

it would be nice to have something that would be a tiny payemnt for a very short time...AND get better MPG than the tundra...AND have a 3rd row for both of us for when the third kiddo comes along....

Of course, if i decided to do it, they would both be modded exactly the same probally....so they would be really twins, just one shorter than the other.

i just really like the 04 with 44k miles on it for next to nothing apsect of things.

thoughts?

PS for those of you (like me) who think everyone needs a truck, my dad has an 06 silverado that we could use anytime we had a project....hmmmmm

Seems like you've already decided you wanna do it. I say go for it....

Not everyone NEEDS a truck they're just handy to have SOMETIMES and very rarely.

Do it!

Seems to be cheaper for you to do it vs. the Tundra. I also say go for it. Especially with that low amount of miles.

Why not, it seems to be the optimal decision and a smart one. I just don't see how you are getting 17MPG unless thats all highway.

I don't agree that everyone needs a truck. Most people could use one a few times a year but the rest of the time, an enclosed SUV is just WAY more practical.

If you *truly* NEEDED a truck, this wouldn't even be a decision for you.

I've never owned a truck, but I bought a cheap-o Harbor Freight folding trailer that I used for a couple years when I was doing a ton of work on my old house. You can rent trucks from Lowe's, Depot or most rental car companies. Or you can borrow a buddy's truck: "Hey can I trade you my Yukon SLT for your Silverado this Saturday morning?" Not a bad trade. Buddies won't mind that deal especially if you pick them up a nice bottle of scotch for the loan.

It's a win for them and you get to keep your practical SUV for the other 364 days/year. Having a family member with a truck is even better, just gotta take care of them and treat them right when you borrow it.

No brainer, IMO.

16.8 to be exact....thats almost 17. but she drives about a 50/50 mix city/hwy like i do. mine being 13 is what sucks. of course she doesnt haul butt everywhere, but shes no granny driver either. she'll do 75-80 consistantly on the hwy...and shes not the last one to leave a red light but i dont think she's ever full throttled it....she used to get caught doing that in my C5 corvette even though she denied it hahaha. (my work bag would be turned over and dumped out...it never moved with my spirited driving)

if i decide to do this ill post up here of course..

Ah that makes sense. I'm seeing 12.7 in my escalade all city driving. I drove it like a grandma for a whole day in the city and reset my mpg light. It tapped 16mpg although its impossible to drive slow like that.
