Single stage clock spring for dual stage airbag?

Correct. You can use a 03+ airbag with a 03+ steering wheel. either clock spring will work for just the air bag regardless of steering wheel controls or not. So in your instance I would replace just the clock spring if you can live with having your buttons "dummy" buttons. If not then go ahead and get a new wheel without controls, use your existing air bag, and get a new clock spring without steering wheel controls. If you decide to get a new wheel, you can definitely sell your old one

Hopefully my bubble chewing man and "service airbag" message go away once I do the swap.

Did I mention that I'm deathly afraid of the airbag deploying while I'm removing it?

Lol the 03+ are super easy to remove. But I always unhook the battery when messing with them

Anyone want to buy a 2003 steering wheel with controls?

I'm probably going to replace mine with a Remin w/o controls.
