So I've never really done much of this stereo installation before, helped a friend out once who knew what he was doing, but picked up some knowledge and thought I'd apply it.
I put in a set of Comps, Alpine SPR 17LS's in front an back doors on my 2003 Z71. The front was easy as pie to drill the holes into the metal and screw in, but the feeds through the rubber accordian style tubes between the door and the frame were a ******, even with the coathanger trick. I decided to use 12 guage wire, most likely why.
I thought after reading through the forum the back doors would be just as easy, but was wrong, the templates were for 5.25 inch, not 6.5 comps. So took the plastic speaker holders off and build wooden templates instead, both to house the mid and the tweet. You won't see the tweet hole in the pic but I'd figured I'd cover that great big huge cavity as well. I was shocked to see how much open cavity there was in the doors of Tahoes, next spring, I'll be looking to cover them up with dynamat or other form of deadener. The template wasn't easy, lots of fitment trial and error, always worth it in the end when the labour is free
I did the Big 3, will be ordering the DoorChime and steering wheel control shortly for my Alpine Deck. The 5 channel amp is wired up and ready to roll. I already have a ported 1.5ft box for my Mach 5 MAW-12 sub, will be carpeting it shortly and throwing it in the back.
Should be fun when It's all together.
