Dealerships make their profit in the parts and service departments.
They don't make anything selling you a new car.
And your point is? That it therefore should be acceptable for them to charge twice the price on parts?
Furthermore, I disagree with your statement that they do not make "anything" on selling me a car!
I am sure that not everyone negotiates the price equally, meaning that if I walk out of the Stealership with an awesome price, it does not necessarily mean that the old couple who does not know how to negotiate or the rich guy who does not need to negotiate paid the same price. So if a car/truck is 50K and I get it for 42K, the dealer for sure did not give it to me loosing money, but they may for sure get the 50K from the old couple or the rich guy.
Before I purchased my Yukon, I test drove a Tahoe at the local Dealership which was mechanically sound, had the right miles on it and they asked 15K for it. I looked at it in detail and it needed a lot of paint work as it was practically scratched up all over the place. I offered them 12K as I said it needed a new paint job. They did not sell it to me, I walked.
Two days later they called me and wanted to sell it to me for 10K.
But yeah, I am sure they do not make ANY money on selling cars, only on overpriced parts. COME ON!!!!!!
