SO PISSED!!! Can powder coated wheels be re-powdered without stripping finish?

Long Story short, i hit a pot hole over the weekend, which actually cracked one of my kmc slides and caused me to swerve into the shoulder, which was a bunch of dug up dirt and rocks. I am ordering one new wheels after KMC refused to cover it under warranty since they do not cover hazards. 2 of my wheels have some curb rash on them as a result of going off the shoulder, and i wanted to know if they could be repowdercoated with gloss black over the existing powder coated finish, or does the wheel have to be completely stripped first?

I'm pretty pissed, on top of needing a new wheel, and getting the rest finished, i skid my front bumper and fender against the guard rail. Luckily i was able to control the truck pretty well, and avoided hitting it straight on. I have no doubt that if my tahoe wasnt lowered and had the DJM swaybars, i would not have been able to control it as well as i did. End result is that im going to need the front bumper repainted and a complete new front fender. The rest will buff out.

I'm dropping it off at the body shop on friday, and already ordered a new wheel. Hopefully i can just get the other wheels repowder coated and they will match the 2 good wheels. If not, ill have to pay to have them all stripped down and redone.

Heres's a pic of wheel, the crazy part is that the tire didn't even blow, the actual inside of the rim had a chunk just crack off!

Holy cow! Glad you're ok. The truck will just take money and time to fix. If it were you that was injured, who knows.

thanks, exactly, it could have been worse. i was going about 80mph when it happened, so it could have been far worse. I am lucky enough to have a good friend that has a body shop, so he was able to source a GM Fender for me and will hook it up on the labor so i can pay him cash instead of going through insurance.

Ahh, always nice to have someone that does body work! You should always have a friend that is a mechanic, body shop owner, lawyer, doctor, electrician, plumber, A/C and/or general contractor.

Damn that sucks man.
You will have to get the other wheels media blasted in order to re powdercoat them. You can't just go over the old finish.
Second, most wheels are painted, not powdercoated. The Slides are painted so you can either have the rash repaired and the wheels repainted with regular paint or powdercoated.
More than likely the refinished wheels will not match the new ones exactly so you could get all of them repainted (regular or powder) after they are fixed. If you don't mind the new one not matching the old ones by a bit you can leave it how it is.
