First and foremost happy new years to everyone. I hope this year brings you peace and prosperity. Alright fellas, I wanted to give time to make sure this was actually solved before i updated . . .
The day after i last posted in this thread, before getting ready to do voltage drop tests and start inspecting every square centimeter of wiring harnesses for problems, i had an overwhelming urge to go back and mess with the passenger ground one more time.
since i had relocated that particular ground, i used a wire brush to clean the new location and thought i had done a pretty good job, but wasn’t 100% confident in it. Despite me seeing bare metal, I felt as something still wasn’t right. So i used a razor blade to scratch the frame rail by the mounting hole to get bare metal to show itself.
As for the eyelet lug, it still had some rust and debris on it, but due to the short slack and weird angle, the wire brush basically did nil (or really, it was me doing nil.. since I couldn’t get a proper grip on the eyelet and/or enough room with the wire brush to actually clean it). I used the razor blade to clean off the rust and scratched it up too, in which I learned that, according to my phone, the eyelet lug is a rare special breed called Lepidodactylus Lugubris . . .
Interesting. I also scratched up the washer i was using too, as it was a loose washer i pulled out of my stack o’ nuts and bolts, and it’s possible it was zinc coated or something which was possibly effecting the contact? I don’t know, don’t quote me on that part..
Tightened it all up super tight. Since then, it’s been almost 3 weeks, hundreds of miles later, drove in the city, drove the interstate, sunny days, rainy days, outside ambient temperature fluctuations between 35*F and 79*F — no door lock insanity, and I’m happy to say that we finally got this solved. It appears as if it *ACTUALLY WAS* the ground the whole time. Apparently, i didn’t clean it well enough or it just wasn’t making proper metal on metal contact.
Thanks to all who contributed trying to help me figure this out. I hope this thread can be assistance to anyone in the future who runs into this issue.
here’s a cool pic
