Yup, transmission is done in the burban. My mechanic just sent me pics I will post later (at work). The saddest part of the whole thing is that I just spent 6k I had saved on my kids bday surprise party gifts (ATVs). They're 13 year old twins and have been asking for them for years. I got to the party late because truck broke down on the way so I missed the moment of the kids seeing them for the first time-I know other dads on here know what I mean. The 8s were still mounted, the transmission never had any issues before this, regularly serviced. My mechanic said the hardened shell (whatever that is) was broken and was spinning inside the case. The case is cracked all the way around like it could've broken in half!!

Will post pics later..

Fatboy that sucks and I know what you mean regarding kids. Is your rig modded and/or do you tow a lot?

InTruck, when you say common, is this for modded rigs? Just curious. I remember the issues you had with your last Tahoe...

Yea, the sunshell usually breaks when you are dogging it. Don't ask me how I know.

Buy and install a upgraded sun-shell, "beast" sun-shell.

SW CT,
I have seen quite a few not-modded suv's with stripped sunshells, though most were north of 100k on the odometer. If you are modded...even just big wheels or tires, without a regear it just can't handle the extra load for too long. An upgrade to a "beast" sunshell is a no-brainer, also should look into adding an extra clutch pack to 3rd gear...Alto reds and kolene steels..imo.

For that kind damage, there is no way to rebuild from financial point. Get a GM GoodWrench remanufactured one from GM dealer.
