What's the best way to get my hands on one, outside of EBay or buying a wrecked one from IAAI? Or, is ebay/IAAI/Salvage my best option?

I'm up here in Portland OR. Our pull it yards don't have 2007 Denali/Escalade etc. parts. I don't work in the auto field so M-F BS'ing with salvage parts guys just isn't something I have a lot of time to do. I usually do a lot of research and slowly accumulate what I need - although I've always had a hard time actually getting my hands on core parts.

The 6L80 is about to go (clunking slightly in lower gears, hard shifting at slow speeds, etc.) and I want to get a core to build it myself. Watched a lot of videos, seen a lot of upgrade parts I could begin to accumulate, and the garage is just about clearing out from my home renovation, so I think I could pull this off.

And it isn't just the Denali. I own a Buell motorcycle, an Audi B5 S4 (which means I'm an equivalent apprentice mechanic at this point) an old K2500, and I'm always wanting a source block/head/etc. to tinker on over time but I can never get an extra core _____ to work with.

What you all doing to get bigger core (tranny's, blocks, etc.) to work on?

Just curious how many miles you have on it?

There's a guy here in Las Vegas Craigslist selling a 6l80e. He is selling it for 1200 but told me he would just settle for 600

Thanks Yukon - it's a little far. Trying to find something a little more local, I can pick up.

A buddy of mine has a tow yard service.........he has a wrecked Chevy truck with a 4L80E.......he is in the process of pulling the motor before he sends the rest of the truck off to the wrecker. He'd probably let the transmission go for $$$ dirt cheap........his yard is full of police impounds and he needs to get all his lien sale vehicles out of there to make room.

Saw the truck as recently as yesterday, he still hadn't got the motor pulled yet.......been raining all day today, so I imagine he still hasn't got it out.

I can inquire with him if you'd like. It is located in Chico, California.

Naw, thanks though tony. I'm hoping to find something around Portland/Salem/Vancouver/Tacoma that I can just pick up in person. I'm probably going to be waiting for a while. The holidays brought a bunch of wrecks to the IAAI sale yards last year - I might just try to steal a deal on an escapade/Denali/Sierra this winter. I'm currently trying to search the www for anyone that has put a 6l90 tranny in a Denali or Escalade. Seems like I'd need some custom drive lines and other conversion parts, etc. just wondering what others have done before I come across a good deal a little different rig, I.e. 2500HD or something...
