Some dealers will allow an item to stay on open back order status. Some dealers cancel the order if the part is on back order. I have a different part on backorder via a different dealer source and they emailed me and I had to decide if I wanted to cancel the order or leave it in back order status. In this case, I left the part in back order status as the part should hopefuly be available in late January??

I put an order in for a 2nd FPCM via a different dealer, they came back and indicated if was out of stock, but then a 10 days later I received shipping notification.

Again, search around, you may have to pay slightly more for the part and/or shipping, but some online dealers have the part in stock.
Same here. Order cancelled.

"Thank you for your recent order at GMPartsStore.com.
Unfortunately, the part ordered is not available through GM at this time. The part is on an indefinite back order. We have also contacted our network of suppliers without luck."

What dealer were you able to obtain the part?

GMPartsStore was the first order.

Gateway Parts Online did not have it in stock, but on Saturday they generated a USPS shipping label, so I am hoping they will ship out today or soon. They are in Dallas and I know the temps dropped recently, not sure about snow or ice.

Also check on ebay. I found what appeared to be a dealer parts group listing some on ebay for a decent price as I recall and I think??? they indicated they had stock??

Stay away from the China sellers as this module is supposed to be made in the USA by the label. You could also overpay and get a Dorman unit that is likely a relabled and marked up GM unit if you can even find a Dorman one.

Good luck

Again, my mom's '09 DTS's crapped out without warning last year. My mechanic told me that these units have been notoriously prone to failure for years now. So... Maybe probably?
Good point, but still, making it ~16 years doesn’t necessarily make me think “failure prone”; and it’s possible that the caddy was a one-off. I have not heard of widespread failure of the FPCM on anything other than 21+ T1’s.. that being said, I’ve never heard of this type of part failing on other *makes* of vehicle.. must be a GM thing (it’s possible other makes don’t even have a module like this and that’s why, but I don’t know). But also to that point then yea, maybe probably it would be worth having a spare even for the K2 . . .

I am not really familiar with the K2 platform. I know some of the prior generations did have issues, some with water intrusion into the connector especially if they trucks were used at boat ramps. Some did have FPCM failures.

I also believe this generation required the module to be programmed, so if you do get a spare, test it and if it does not work, get is programmed so you have a functional spare.
Ahhh that sucks big time if the K2’s require programming. Can anyone confirm or rebut this ? Makes it kinda moot since I can’t do in house programming.

Its not if the module will fail, but when IMHO. Either due to component failure, solder joint problems or water intrusion into the connector.

I cannot say 100% that the module needs to be programmed, there was all sorts of info that my 2024 needed to be programmed, but it did not need to be programmed.

I think your FPCM is clearly a different part number from the current models and may be around $100 depending on where you find it.

There are 2 problems when the unit fails.

1. Finding the correct FPCM quickly and easily. Late and night, weekends in the wild, who knows. Buy one and have it in the truck.

2. Programming, does it need it?? Buy it and try it. It will either work or need programming. If it needs programming, you at least have it on hand and can shop around and find someone to program it for a spare, or if you get stranded and have the part, then you just need to find a shop with a more advanced scan tool that can program the module.

In my area, this would be less than a cost of a tow job, plus you would likely need to pay list price for the part, labor to install and programming. Quickly adds up to a $500-$750 job and at least a day or more. Can't even put a value on the PIXXed Off wife!!! If mine fails, it will likely be in the midst of a 2.5-6 hour trip as we take these pretty often.

Thanks! I tend to avoid Flea-Bay for car parts. Too many counterfeit parts. I tried Dorman's website a few weeks ago and couldn't come up with a part number for a 2022. It seems they only have modules for prior years.

Gateway just shipped my 2nd module out on 1/6 and I should have it 1/11 depending on weather. I placed the order 12/27 and I think it was showing out of stock when the order was initially placed.

Hope you get a positive update on your order soon.
