Hey guys new here!
Just picked up a 1999 Yukon SLT with 108,000 miles. It's in great shape and was corporate owned for most of its life. Got it for 3600$! Mega good deal.

Anyways, when my dad and I were working on fixing the third brake light which wasn't working, we checked the spare tire lock and I specifically remember it being there but I didn't try to unlock it.

I just got to my apartment two days later and realized its missing! I guess it wasn't locked and fell out. The spare is still there and I would like to lock it up ASAP.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket spare tire locks that will fit that location and work? I called Oreilley and was told to go to a dealership... don't really wanna do that.

EDIT I thought I found one on JCWhitney but it was a hitch lock and the only spare tire lock I found was supposedly incompatible.

Any ideas where I can find a spare tire lock?

Well I called around some more and figured out they didn't come with a spare tire lock. When we first looked at it, it sure looked OEM!
The guy at the local GM dealer parts dept took my vin and looked it up. He said the 1999 Yukon's did not come with spare tire locks in the bumper.

Oh well!

4drs had a wind up retention system that pulls the tire up from under the body and holds to the frame. The drive rod that goes thru the hole in the bumper next to the plate is keyed as is the gearbox input shaft. 2dr's iirc are just a big spin on nut inside. Those are inside the cab so I don't think they would have a lock normally.

Oh! That makes sense. I found the jack in the cargo area but didn't inspect it... so everything I need to change the tire should be in there? Including the drive rod to lower the tire? I'll go check it this afternoon when I get home from class...

And when you say the drive rod is keyed you mean that someone with the same or similar vehicle can't just walk up and use theirs to take my tire, right?

thank you for your help!

in the right side corner near the door there is a big cover with latches on it. If all is present you will a scissor type jack and a plastic case. You should also see the handles that are used. they maybe in a plastic case.

Have not verified that another hoe could not take it because I don't have dozens of them to compare. I suspect that there is definitely a chance but I would say the odds are 20.1 to 40.1.
