I have just fixed so I can get my spare tire loose.
There was no key to the lock in the bumper, and the original key was changed out for a new one (hummer 2 logo on them :hmm: ).
Just wacked out the metal rings behind it and there it was.
Used a dremel to cut out the lock (small plastic piece), glued the two tube pieces together and put it back in, now I only have to open the plastic lock on the outside to winch the spare down.
The spare was/is the original from the factory (265/70-16 with black/little rusty steel rim), and went right down without any problems like the secondary/safety latch acting up/sticking.
Must be one of those 2002´s that works a little better, no rust on the wire (looks like new) either while the mechanism itself isn´t new so it probably is the original one as well.
Keep in mind that this car came to Sweden in 2006 so it has only seen NY in 3.5-4 years.
I´m going to take down the front and rear bumper and the spare tire to do a decent underbody coating (chrome on rear and front look OK, but not the inside of both).

Anything else I should think about when doing this?
