First of all I'm glad I found this place. Just reading through all of these posts gives me tons of ideas.

I've been looking but still am not clear about this so I figured I'd ask.

Looking to add the following replacing the stock Bose.

Front and rear door speakers- JL C3 650
Sub- JL Stealthbox
Amp- JL HD900 5 channel

Was going to have them leave the rest of the speakers hooked to the factory Bose setup. Does anyone know what that unit pushes in terms of power? I can't seem to locate it anywhere. Also, will this setup work without anything additional? I've read about the chimes getting crazy loud.

I just figured everything would run as is except the new speakers would be on their own. I want to be sure the upgrade will be an improvement over OEM considering I'm not replacing the head unit.

Thanks for the feedback.

I thought the amps would still power the tweeters in the front pillars as well as the remaining speakers in the rear? Maybe the Bose amp doesn't power those and they just run straight by it?

Didn't think of the Cleansweep- thanks for the heads up.

Also.... because I have the premium stereo will I also need to purchase the JL CL-SSI Signal Summing Interface?

Does anyone know what the output is for the Bose factory head unit? Just the RMS but if you had peak that would be cool. I cannot find it anywhere on the web?

Thanks-

all speakers are powered from the bose amp. if you call jls tech support they will be able to tell you if you need the summing mod or not. it depend if the stock deck has a full range output.

Yeah total pain in the A$$! Here's what I've found out.

If I want to keep all of the functionality of the stock system in terms of backup camera, xm, on-star, etc I'm going with the following.

Keeping the head unit as replacing it I understand you cannot use the factory equipment for the above functions. From the head unit I am running into the Bose Amp then to the JL CL SSI signal interface. From there into the JL Clean Sweep then into the JL HD900 Amp and finally into the Stealthbox and JL C5- 650 F & R door speakers.

The Cleansweep will basically wipe every other speaker out meaning the rear I pillar speakers. I will mount the component tweeters into the door for the rear and in the front pillar where the old tweeters were. Probably with a little modification.

This setup should be hands down better than what the Bose system was. My only concern is that the Bose unit probably only pushes 7 watts or so max. Bummer. I
wish I could find a new head unit that would allow me to keep the functionality without adding on all of the extras.

Way to go GM in keeping your stuff proprietary!

If I'm off base then feel free to let me know..

I was told you couldn't keep the stock features.
What model did you get? I saw a couple of really nice Kenwoods on the Crutchfield site that looked loaded.

Was thinking about the Kenwood Excelon DNX9980HD. Just wanted to be sure it would work but if yours did I would think this should with the addition of the XM piece?

I didn't want to have to run a new camera, XM antenna, bluetooth and all of that stuff.

If thats the case then I'll replace the head unit too. The last thing I want is to have a great setup and have it crap cause the head unit only pushes out 7 watts or so.

No one seems to have a clear understanding and thats whats confusing.

I appreciate your knowledge and input. Its helping out.

if your doing this install yourself i would highly recommend you use the clean sweep. head unit output really has nothing to do with this. the cleansweep will take in the signal and convert it to what the amps want to see.

swapping the deck would be nice. the one i did used a 9960 kenwood. the 9980 is super nice! get this part and a gmrvd and you should be in good shape.http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=384&CategoryID=26

Well after some additional research I've made a slight change. I am dropping the Cleansweep, SSI Interface, and the RLC remote and in place will add the Audison Bit 1 Processor. I can't wait to hear this thing!

I'm going to keep the OEM headunit for now but I have a question about the speakers maybe someone can help me with?

Since I am bypassing the center and rear pillar speakers I want to be sure that my door speakers will work for the Navigation, On-Star, Bluetooth...

In otherwords does the sound from the above come from all speakers, just the door speakers, or just the center speaker? If it's just the center speaker I'm going to need to rethink this setup.

Also, the little disks above the driver, passenger, and rear passenger heads on the ceiling, are those mics for the bluetooth, tweeters, etc. ???

Thanks!
