Yep, you can do it. There is actually a box that used to go in there to hold a sub in the older generation Tahoes/Yukons.

yes you can put an 8 inch sub in there . i dont think u can go any bigger without modifying the box

That is exactly what mine looks like and I thought there was an actually speaker in there until I looked and its hollow. So the 2002 Yukon XL's actually had an 8" sub in there. The dimensions of the 2002 are the same as the 2004's so I don't see why I could'nt put one in there. Could you let me know how small the box was that it was installed in? I would like to put a 10"sub in there even if I have to cut a 10"hole in that position and build a small box that would fit back there. Or is there anyplace that builds premade boxes for that area. I'm going to get a speaker in there. Rockford Fosgate makes audiophile subs that are made for very small enclosure boxes? so I'm going to get a Audiophile but what size would all of you recommend, should I try the Ten inch or an 8" sub would be the best. I would like to keep the back look stock but if I have to cut a hole in that spot I will and just put a speaker cover so when packing it wont get dinged up.

Do a search on the fourms. There are after market boxes available and you might be able to find a stock box on eBay but you will have to make sure it's for you model truck. There are differences between years and XL and non-XL.

I have looked everywhere and all I can find is boxes for the front sub in the Denali's I cant find anything for the rear subwoofer enclosure. I might have to pull the back plastic apart take measurement and make a box on my own. The cut out the plastic that looks where the speaker should go and mount my 12" in the back and put a Grill either mounted on the box our mount the grill on the plastic on the outside with the speaker as close to the whole so it looks like it was stock made to where the speaker shows in the hole with the Rockford audiophile fitting up against the hole with the speaker grill hiding the cut on the plastic and hope it sounds good with such a small box in depth. Ill need to get measurements on the depth of the 12" and 10" audiophile. How deep the magnets sit back. I know the bigger the magnet the bigger the boom but its crunch time here I might have to go with a Cerwin Vegas that have a smaller magnet and gives me more room in the box to get the boom. If anybody know of someone who has a box premade or made a box themselves I would be very gracious for the dimensions.

Unfortunately the Tapatalk app is crap for searching and I won't be back at a computer until Monday (on vacation in the mountains yah me) but if nobody pipes in before I get back I will search and post links to what others have done. Not sure if there is enough usable space for anything larger that a 10" in that cubby. An 8" would be perfect in there without much modification.
