I know some of you have these and I am looking for any pluses or minuses you have encountered.

Such as, are they cheaply made?

From what I have learned, most cai's work exactly the same and are made very similar. The biggest difference is an open filter system and a closed system. A closed system will work better because it isolates the filter from engine heat. So, if you're going with an open system, I'd get the cheapest one, imo.

Good info.

How is a closed CAI different from the regular intake?

I have the spectre cai. I think it was $130 at oreiley's auto. It doesn't seem cheaply made. Easy to install. Makes the engine sound a bit louder and throaty. Overall it's fine and i'd buy it again.

Is that the one they have usually where it's universal? I found CAI on eBay for as cheap at 28.99 look similar to the spectre set up. I want to get a CAI after I get heating system fixed and lighting installed.

First of all, it just looks cooler than the stock intake, lol. I believe a closed cai has more air flow into the box. The cone shaped air filter has more surface area to let more volume of air in and the intake tube is smooth which allows higher air speeds. Over all, it just allows for more COLD air flow. If you're not worried about looks, you could do the swiss cheese mod with a drop in K&N and a home depot racing cai.

What do you do with the Mass Airflow Sensor?

Is it worth it to buy a K&N or AirRaid unit?

The maf sensor goes in the same spot. If you wanna pay extra for the K&N name go ahead but not worth it imo.

Agreed. Paying for K&N is just the name. That's why I went with the spectre. It was the cheapest, still has a good quality parts that are all metal and chromed. It fit everything exactly, not just a universal kit held together with a coat hanger. I'd worry about spending $28 on ebay.
