Hey everyone,
I have a 2003 Tahoe 4x4 with the 5.3. I have an issue I am trying to figure out. So the other day I was heading out to make a car payment in my tahoe and on the highway my abs light popped on and my brake light popped on. Then the transmission started shifting irratically. Well i pulled over quickly and checked tranny fluid it was fine. So I had my code reader in my glove box and i hooked it up and it shot me the p0503 code. So i milked it home slowly in 2nd. I checked to see what the code is and possibly what is causing it. So it gives all the symptoms of a speed sensor. We changed 2 sensors on the transfer case and it seemed like it fixed it but did it again after driving it for a few minutes. But it drove fine and acted normal. The transmission has all its gears still. Now with that said, when i got the truck it did not have a gauge cluster in it so i scanned marketplace and found one out of a wrecked tahoe and it had front end damage. When i put it in the gauges all worked fine. But the display was acting weird. Changing the language and shooting messages that i know wasnt wrong with the truck after all. Truck had ran fine till now. I been waiting till tax time to grab a better. When i shut the key off the display looks weird and stays lit up for a while but its non sense and you cant read it. And 2 weeks ago i noticed when i shut off the truck the brake light is just barely starting to light up. We have been trying to figure this out the past week. My code reader dosent do abs and I know i need someone with a abs code reader to hook up to it but i dont have 100 to pay a shop right now to do that with thanksgiving and christmas. But today i noticed now its not even registering i am in park and sometimes when i shift up and downs it lights up when it wants to. I can feel it shift into the other gears. So I am thinking that the gauge cluster is possibly sending out wrong info to the sensors possibly. I know i need to replace it but again i was trying to get by till tax time. So I was wondering if this could possibly be the issue. Also i was wondering how many speed sensors are underneath of it. I know there are 3 on the transfer case and I assume there are 4 abs speed sensors on the tire. I just want to make sure that is right. My mechanical knowledge only goes so far. So I am sorry if this upsets anyone. I tried asking on a tahoe forum on facebook and i explained it as best as I could and there was the one guy who had to be a jerk. I think its either the cluster or one of the wheel sensors. I picked up another speed sensor to change the one on the passenger side but i took one of the new ones i replaced before and hooked it up and it still is doing the samething. Also its chimming on the inside and the security light flashes now on it. The light with the car and lock on it. I assume thats the limp mode or security. I know i need to find someone with the abs code reader but i was just wanting a few questions i had answered like how many sensors there are. And if anyone else thinks it could be the cluster or abs wheel sensors. Any help would be great. And I can provide as much info as i can as I have said my mechanical knowledge only goes so far.
