Pretty simple question. Today I got an intermittent squealing noise from the left front wheel. Only happened while moving. I'd guess it's not brake related because it happened when I wasn't touching the brakes and stopped when I did, but my wife is sure it IS the brakes...sooooo.....

What all could it be? I can't really think of anything but bearings. If it's that, is it an expensive fix? I don't know much about that stuff, I just know that in about a week I'm going on a 700+ mile trip pulling about 4,000lbs of boat and I need the truck functioning.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

have you checked to see if the metal clips on your pads are dragging yet?? That could do it maybe...
As far as bearings its really not a hard job to do and can be done for about $250
you need a 1 3/8" socket and the same tools you would use to do your brakes
if you can take off your rotors you can change your hubs
If you want you can either PM me or I can post up in here on some details of the job.

Depending on how many miles you have even if the squealing isnt the hubs it can still be a good idea to get new ones.

You might want to pop the wheel off and check the brakes first though

Sounds like wheel bearing going out since you say that the sound doesn't go away when you step on the brakes but only goes away when you slow down and stop!!

Yay, it was not a huge deal.

Everyone who said brakes, give yourselves a hand.

Just needed new pads. Rotors were ok, and rear brakes are good for a while yet.
