What's up. I have a 2000 Yukon Denali with the 5.7 v8. I bought the vehicle and it had trouble starting had to turn it over for a few seconds before it would start and it would idle rough. Had the codes checked and it come up it was running rich and had a random misfire. So leaving work about a week ago I noticed it would not rev past 4000 rpm it would get up to 4k an jus fall on its face. A couple days later was setting at a red light and went to go when the light changed an it jus died. It will start for a second or two then die. Had to have it towed home. Anybody help would be appreciated

When I bought it they said it was misfiring cuz it needed a tune up so I put wires and plus on it. Didn't help it. It will start for a second or two then die

I just re read through your post again. I think you started in the right direction but you need to go further like I stated above. Cap and rotor for sure and fuel filter to finish your tune up. If that don't clear it up then we can go from there

Think it would maybe be the fuel pump? I had my wife turn the key on and off and I couldn't hear the fuel pump running. And it kinda acts like it's out of gas when I try to start it

it is possible to be the fuel pump but could be 50 other things.
Test fuses and see if the pump firs is ok. Open fuel cap and turn key on to hear a bit better. On the older ones like yours sometimes it's hard to hear the pump. If you have under half a tank hit the bottom of the tank. Sometimes it will give the pump one last run. If that's what you think it is. You can unplug the pump and check for power.
Are you fairly handy with this kind of stuff ?

Yeah I'm pretty handy when it comes to stuff like that. Jus gotta find the time to do it. 12 hour shifts suck in the winter. Dark when you leave and dark when you get home. I'm gonna try and work on it sunday

How does the exhaust smell when it does run. Does it smell rich (like raw gas)?

Could be the fuel pump or the spider injector unit if it has never been replaced. Those (the injector unit) had issues and they redesigned them.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it first and see what it does cranking. Pressure should be 60-66 PSI key on engine off.

I wouldn't doubt that's why it's running rich. But would that cause it to not run? And yes it smells like gas. Like I said before. It threw the codes running rich on both banks and a random misfire. I've also heard the distributor gear is real bad to wear out and would cause them codes
