so I've seen a few threads but none really saying how to fix it in depth or told how it did after. So ever since the Tahoes been in the family my dad noticed that the steering was really loose and sloppy since 08 but never thought anything about it, now that I bought it I said something about it and he said he's noticed it since they bought it so I did some research found it was a common problem and now it's gotten pretty bad there's a lot of play going down the road and is sketchy about 75mph and it finally got taken in and he said there was nothing wrong and from what I've read that's what a lot of mechanics and dealers say becuase it's like a factory flaw but I've seen that there's a few bolts you can tighten but I was wondering if anyone did it and can say if it worked or not it's now at 141k.

Where did you take it when you took it in? Take it to a different place. If it's bad enough that you weave like a dunk going down the highway, even when you are sober, then it is bad enough that something can and should be done. A shop sending you down the road with a BS line about factory flaws and common issues, is a shop that you should not only never visit, it is also a shop that you should actively warn people against visiting.

On the other hand, if the steering just feels really light going down the highway making the Tahoe feel almost twitchy, but the steering wheel has very little dead span (dead span is how much you turn the steering wheel before the tires start turning), then you are driving a Chevy and need to adjust your driving style. I went from an 09 BMW 135I with ~30K miles to an 07 Tahoe with~ 60K miles and the steering was so much lighter on that overweight Tahoe, that it took me a little bit to adjust to it.

Have you checked the tie rod ends, other front end components, and the steering shaft running from the firewall to the rack and pinion? The rack and pinion is not as easy to adjust as a steering gear box, but it can be done. I do not remember the procedure off the top of my head. Search adjusting a rack and pinion steering, and you will find the info you need. You could also pick of the rack and pinion from a lower mileage wrecked half ton Truck/Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon.
