Light rattle when hitting bumps while wheels are turned coming from steering. How hard is the intermediate shaft to replace and how about the bushing under the dash?

You can try "exercising" it. Basically redistributing the grease. Seems to last about a year and a half for me, time to do it again. But it's free and stops the noise.

Here's replacing though if you want

Mine was the bearing but it was more like a clunk than a rattle. Not too bad to change it out. If you take it apart to "exercise" it like treehan77 mentioned you can see if the upper shaft has any play in the bearing.

I just installed Dorman 425-176 on my 2006 Tahoe (purchased via Amazon). Rattle in steering now gone. I recommend removing the rubber boot (3 nuts) and the foot throttle asm. inside to get better access to the nuts and bolts. I don't think you can get the existing shaft out without removing the rubber boot assembly. Also - on the Dorman 425-176 a small Allen head bolt was holding the sliding mechanism (I think this is for shipping) - I took that out in order to install the new shaft. I'm happy so far - drove about 30 miles today and didn't hear or feel any rattling. I also jacked the whole front of the car up so I could move the bolts to a position to get the 37 foot-pounds applied by my 1/2" torque wrench.
