So one of the first things I fixed on my Yukon is the burnt out steering wheel light. I read that you might as well just replace the whole unit instead of trying to get new bulbs so thats what I did.

I pick up a new Volume/Seek unit off the internet for $20 I think so they are not very expensive.

I used needle nose players to pull out the burnt out unit which came out very easy but like everyone said the wires are so short its almost impossible to plug in the new unit.

I just took off the airbag (after unplugging the battery) which took about 2mins and was able to get some slack for the new unit.

Re-installed the air bag and was good to go.

Only problem is now my vol/seek lights are WAY brighter than all of the others....I should had replaced them all at the same time.

I did the exact same replacement and the wires are really too short - I actually tied a piece of fishing line around the wire to help hold. I replaced all four - I was afraid it would look different.

I gave up and used a razor to cut the bottom rubber stuff to reach the others. So I have a tiny little cut there now that I'm just gonna glue back.

Yeah I tried a bunch of things to plug in the new control but once I pulled the airbag off it was so much easier...I wish I would have just done it from the start.

I thought you could just replace the bulbs for cheap. I read somewhere that gave a radioshack number. Would be nice to replace them with LEDs.

You can replace just the bulbs.

You just have to solder in new ones, but my housing was all scratched up and worn out so I just wanted to get whole new deal.

I don't remember the site I was on but someone is doing the LED conversion and selling them. You can get them in just about any color. My "source" up and down and my "seek" are out currently so I've been looking at doing it.

You can get the LED ones on Ebay I think....

I believe there is a seller on there that you can send yours in and they will install the leds and send it back to you.
