I really want to replace the steering wheel emblem on my 08 Tahoe. I cant find anyone that sells anything to cover it or replace it with but I really cant stand the gold bowtie. Any ideas?

I just replaced mine in Friday with an 09 Corvette steering wheel emblem. Looks real good, but it is not the easiest thing to change out. You have to disconnect the battery, remove the airbag from the steering wheel, then very carefully remove the bag. Then you can get access to the rear of the airbag to remove the OEM emblem.

sorry for the bad pic, quick one off the phone.

That looks pretty good. I actually just pried the oem emblem off last night on whim, not the right way like you did. Where did you pick up the vette emblem looks like its the exact same size?

Yes, you have to pull the entire air bag. You have to remove the emblem from the inside out, so the only way to do it is to pull the bag and get behind the emblem. All of the new gen. Chevy streering wheels have the same sized emblem. The Vette emblem is a perfect fit.

removing the airbag is really not that hard. It was a little scary for me because it was the first one I have ever pulled one. there are no special tools required, just have to be very carefull with the air bag and make sure you pull the neg. battery cable.

The easiest way to remove your emblem is by using an exacto knife and prying slowly under it directly from the front of the air bag. Three metal clips are holding it in and they will give easily. When you get the new emblem simply snap off the 3 clips and use a hot glue gun or strong glue and you're done. Mine looks great (vette emblem) and didn't have to hassle with airbag wiring, etc ....

Successful Emblem Replacement

Good news! Despite what your GM parts guy may say the air bag DOES NOT need to be replaced. I have a 2007 tahoe that the plastic was peeling off around the steering wheel and the previous owner dented the steering wheel emblem. I ordered the newer steering wheel plastic with the silver finish and found a steering wheel emblem on eBay. My friend works at a local repair shop and helped me complete this after hours on his own time so I was able to watch the install. As Conor mentioned and i found in this thread on another forum http://www.z71tahoe-suburban.com/iboard/lofiversion/index.php/t30980.html (thanks w33m4n) you are able to replace this after removing the air bag. I watched them during the install, they popped out the air bag assembly using the same steps mentioned in the other forum. After the airbag was removed from the vehicle they removed the four nuts from the air bag assembly and lifted the airbag out. The airbag stayed in shape so there was no refolding of the airbag to get it back in to the cover. With the airbag removed they folded back the tabs on the old emblem, removed it, and replaced it with the new emblem. The whole process took them about 15 mins. I was hoping to post pictures but they completed the repair so fast I did not have a chance. The post from Conor helped me realize this was possible without replacing the airbag. I hope my post is able to help someone else as well.

If anyone needs an emblem, please e-mail me and I will send you the seller that I purchased mine from.
