Stock front bump stops

How much of the front bump stops can be cut off,and still be safe,just thought i could use a bit more travel,Any thoughts? 2000 Tahoe LT4WD. Everything stock.

i think they always have to be almost resting on the control arms.

I cut mine off completely, even the cup the rubber sits in
