Stock rear door speakers not working

I understood he flipped the wiring at the head and the rear speakers still didn't work, which would be a post amp issue.

Edit: I think in systems, in dividing the problem. Years of Teaching non-technical people to remotely T/S systems with even less technically oriented persons..

He confirmed the 4 Head outputs work and the problem is 'downstream'. IF the radio has teh amp in it, then the problem is from the wiring back to the speaks

Sorry i havent been able to resond for a while but i was on vacation visiting family and didnt have a computer for internet. to clear up what i have read and written, i used the HU rear output with the front wiring in the truck and the front speakers worked so it isnt a HU iss i dont think. when i first wired my HU none of the speakers turned on so i had called crutchfield where i got my HU and found i needed to connect and orange wire coming from the tapedeck player. they said this was the factory amp turn on lead. so after connecting that orange wire the speakers worked but i do not remember if the rear ones worked or not because it has been a few months

Sorry to be bringing up an OLD post but I'm having the Same problem in my 99 just wondering if you solved the issue I just read that you connected the orange wire from the tape deck player. But what did you connect it to. Again sorry for bringing up an old post thanks

I had this same issue in my 95 Tahoe recently.. wasted a whole year without rear speakers, then stumbled in to the electrical schematics. Finally found that one 20A fuse in the fuse block in the dash actually powers the stock amp which powers the rear door speakers.
Check your fuse block for a "cigarette lighter" fuse. Mine was #13. Labeled as Cig Ltr, but actually powered not only the cig lighter, but my power door locks, and stereo amp.
Put in a new fuse, power door locks worked, speakers worked, and now all is good.

Check your fuses.. :)

Thank you I'll give that a shot in the morning hopefully that fixes my problem! But if the fuse was blown how would the power locks cigarette lighter and all that stuff work. But I guess a cant say much till I try it! I'll get back to you in the morning to tell you if it works! Thanks again!

If your locks work and all that.. you might not have the same issue mine had. Just thought I'd throw it out there cause mine turned out to be that way. :)
It's worth checking your fuses to see if any are blown though. :D

Checked the fuses and they checked out to be good now I'm going to go under the dash to see if I can find this amp people have been talking about

simple rear door speakers dont work
check the terminals with multi meter if okay
buy new speakers the factory speakers are terrible

OK guys, I have seen many people ask questions, and I was too.
I have got some answers.

the rear door speakers are 6.5", the wire colors are:
Left side (-) tan (+) white
Right side (-) red (+) tan


I have a 2000 Tahoe Z71 old body ( same look as 95-99), the rear door speakers in my truck are factory amplified. only these two speakers though.
The amp in my truck was located under the dash, above the gas pedal, just behind the horizontal knee bolster bar/pipe. It is silver in color and about the size of a stick of deodorant (squared corners of course) (only common item with same size I could think of)

The wire harness going into the amp has 10 wires. Orange: 12v+, Black: ground, Red: R- output, 2 Tans: L-/R+ outputs, White: L+ output, Brown: L+ input, Yellow: L- input, Dark Blue: R+ input, Light Blue: R- input.

I'm not sure if the speaker inputs to the amp com directly from the stereo, from the rear roof speakers, or from a splice somewhere.

Now, If your truck has a custom stereo, and your rear door speakers are not working, it is most likely that the installer neglected to hook up the amp. This can be done by connecting the pink antenna wire from the factory harness to the blue remote or power antenna output of your custom deck. OR, you can just run a direct line from a constant 12v+ to your orange wire on your amp, but unless you put a switch on this, you will suffer battery drain as it will constantly be on.

If you have the factory deck, and your rear door speakers are not working, don't be dumb like me and start ripping apart the whole dash and such looking for the problem. I spent 6 hours today searching for the problem, before I finally called a Chevy dealership and had them print me out the wiring diagrams. COME TO FIND OUT: it was just a fuse. The amp on my truck draws its power from the cigar lighter circuit/fuse. Which in my truck, the fuse was blown. So after 6 hours of multimeter/voltmeter work, all I had to do was replace the fuse. At least I got to know my truck!
