Will the 17x7.5" stock steel wheels from an 07 Yukon fit on an 02 Yukon? Both stock wheels have 31mm offset, but the 07 wheels are an inch wider, which, if I understand correctly, would put a half inch extra on either side of the mounting surface. How big of tires could I fit on these without rubbing? I'm going for the police SUV look.

Yes they will fit. Size of tires depends on your suspension... If you are stock, I would go a hair over stock size. I went from stock 16's with 265/70's on my '05 Yukon to '07 + 20's with 275/60's and didn't rub... however, the tires are pretty worn.

I might reconsider. Everybody wants a pretty penny for those wheels. I might as well get a set brand new gloss black steel wheels. It would probably cost less than the cost of buying and painting stock rims. My next question is what offset can I get away with. 17" stock rims are 32mm. I read about a guy who had 295/70r17 tires on 17x9 -12 offset wheels. His tires were sticking out about an inch. I would think with 285/70r17 and 17x8 no offset would be about flush if not just a hair outside the wheel well.

Nice. I was thinking either those or American Racing AR172's. They are 8lbs lighter than Cragars. Don't know if I would notice any performance/economy improvements. I am now thinking a 16" wheel would look better with the all terrain tires I've been looking at.

I got the AR172's and had the guy at Les Schwabb put a wheel on so I can get an idea of where they rest in the fender. They are pretty well flush with the outside of the fender, so the tires should stick out just a little, which is what I was looking for. Now I'm just trying to find a good deal on tires. I'm thinking about Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's in P265\70R16. I've decided to keep a stock diameter for better towing power.

Wheel and tire combo looks great. I ended up getting Michelins from Costco that are the equivalent of Defender LTX's. I will post pictures soon if the site will allow me. I'm still getting really sluggish response in third and fourth gear though. I thought going back down to a stock size would fix that, but obviously there is something else going on.

Hey I came across this post with the title. Don't know if you're still in the market for the wheels but I have a set of stock steel 17" wheels from the SLT model that are brand new that someone gave me and i have no use for them. I'd like to sell them quick so I can put that money towards new chrome wheels for my rig. Let me know if you're interested.
