My 2022 Tahoe Z71 should be arriving later this month, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the depth of the storage compartment beneath the cargo area? I currently have a tool kit that is 3.5" deep and wondering if it will fit in that compartment or I'll need to look for something shallower.

Its much shallower than the 2018. Most of the stuff I kept there does not fit..

It's gonna be tight. I just measured mine ('22 Z71) and it's 3 1/8" at the deepest, and about 2 1/4" at the shallow end (closest to the rear). It's not totally flat, nor perpendicular to the ground.

I just got my Z71 and just as I figured, the cargo storage is much less than my previous Armada. Like the previous poster said, it's deepest toward the interior and shallows slightly as it moves toward the liftgate. I was able to put long jumper cables in it and the depth is just enough to fit multiple trailer hitches/balls.

As for the small electric air compressor and tow strap I also carry, there's a removable side panel on the back left where the jack is stored. It has enough room there to fit those items plus a spare can of fix-a-flat and a few road flares I threw in as well.

Depending on the dimensions of your toolkit that may an option for you.
