Alright, I went ahead and just started calling people. Called the guy I sold it to and according to the person on the other side of the line Jason, his first name, was arrested new years eve in Las Vegas and is in deep shit, no explanation given and I asked what the deal with the Tahoe was and they don't know anything about it. I described it and the woman said she saw it once or twice but that was it. I asked at the DMV what the deal was and since I sold it, removed the plates and had a bill of sale, it is still legally mine if it is deemed abandoned, meaning there is no other record of who it might belong to. Meaning the dude never registered it on his name.. Legally I can go to Nevada and pick it up, just pay the towing and storage charges. Called the Henderson PD liasons officer and he told me I could just show up with the letter from the dmv, pay the fees and be on my way. I asked if there would be issues with me taking possesion of it again and as he says the truck is legally mine, I can either pick it up or sign it over to the state of Nevada where it will be auctioned off... This is got me psyched out. I'm waiting on the pics to see what they mean by undriveable, Depending on what it looks like I might take a trip and get it..

From a legal standpoint, and I have been on both sides of the law.
Technically the vehicle is not yours.
I ran into this situation once before about 6 years ago where a so called friend of mine called me and asked me if I would haul a vehicle home for him with my race car trailer.
Now I knew this person since Kindergarten and I knew that he was a doper and I also knew that there was something more then what he was telling.
I came to find out that his daughter was using the vehicle and she did a dope deal down in Pittsburgh and the police knew that she was hauling dope in the vehicle and chased her and the dope was still in the vehicle.
Anyone that moved the vehicle would have been just as guilty of possession of narcotic's as the person who originally operated the vehicle.
Now think about it like this, the only person in the world who would go out and buy a pimp mobile and then not register it would be a dope dealer.
He needed a clean vehicle where he could haul his dope and it was not to his benefit to register it in his name. Even if he said that you lent it to him, you would still be liable - because it was used to commit a felony.
Just the same as if he robbed a bank or held up a liqueur store or killed someone.
The very first thing I would do - before I did anything else would be to call a lawyer and find out what the legal ramifications were before I went out there all fat, dumb and happy. You don't just get something for nothing.
I smell a trap and a rat and the cheese is Limburger.

Great advice. Talking to a lawyer sounds like a good idea to me.At least get the blower though!

I did speak with my sister who is going thru law school and works for a law firm about it and she's running this situation thru her boss. I'll wait on an answer from her on it too..

Ok, just got an email from the Detective. He is a bit more specific. The Tahoe starts but doesn't run because of a broken axle. I'm wondering if the dude was driving it too hard and stressed the axle, anyway, he's got pics and will email me them as soon as he can.. It was found by a park ranger in th middle of a golf course. I gave them all the info I had on the guy I sold it to and it all pans out but since it's unregistered and I'm on record as the owner they will only release it to me. I got a notarized title from the DMV so we'll se what happens. I asked the girl if she wanted it and basically said she knew nothing aboit it and didn't care for it.. Hmmm...
