I have a 2004 5.3L Tahoe LT and it has started to make a slight ticking noise when accelerating. A friend of mine is a part time mechanic at a tire and service station and thinks my lifters may be going bad. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem in the past, because its hard to believe thats the problem when I just surpassed 100k miles.

I have also had a problem with my 4wd not engaging at times. An error message appears in my dash and it wont let me switch into 4wd. Strangely enough if I turn of the car and start it again, the message disappears and I can then engage it. My dad was the original owner and said he had a problem with the 4wd buttons once he first bought it and had to have them replaced. Could it be that the electronic part is going bad or could there be another reason for that error message?

I know this is a long post, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I have a 2001 Tahoe.... In a professional transmission mechanic.. And my Tahoe started making a ticking noise when starting in the morning... There is a bulletin from GM that says that a defective o-ring on the oil pickup tube inside the engine oil pan is not sealing properly and causing the oil pump to not create the necessary pressure.... Causing the noise in the lifters..... Keep an eye on the oil guage.... If it is fluctuating in the morning or when hot and you hear the noise then more than likely you have a bad o-ring.... The repair is to remove the engine oil pan.... On 2wd its easy on 4wd like mine the front diff is in the way but is still feasible....

Thanks for the input, if I take it to a Chevy dealer would they be able to properly diagnose it if its a common occurance? Or do you think they will be a waste of time and try to charge me for unneeded parts and labor?
