Doing headers. You figured getting the rusted bolts off is the worst part. Thought I was smooth sailing until I had to remove dipstick. I got it to twist free and it came out the hole a good 1/4 inch but I cannot get it to come out all the way. Soaked with kroil and still wont go. Im afraid its gonna break. Actually getting close to just cutting it so I can get the truck up and running again. What a dumb thing to get hung up on

Anyone have a method? It looks like if I remove the starter, I can get a prybar on it but trying to avoid tha .

Get a length of line and tie a pipe hitch knot on the dipstick and yank up on it.

Dang I wish I knew that trick when I did my headers. It was going to break and I have pulled a bunch of them out with no problems. Kind of glad it was my own truck I broke the bracket and will be replacing it when I install the new engine. So can you illustrate said knot.

There are lots of variations, this one is simple enough:

Tried pulling again just now and it ended up breaking flush with the block. The piece is still jammed in there.

So now I have two options...

Bang it into the oil pain with a punch and hope it doesnt cause any damage in there.

Or find a way to plug the hole and address it when I find time to drop the oil pain. Rubber stopper?

Man what a pain!

I was actually thinking very small screw extractor. Im just scared to bang on it to get it to seat. But its so stuck I might be ok.

I think im gonna prep for the oil pan drop just in case as wel . With the headers off its probably not that bad.

Victory! Used a 1/4" lag bolt, screwed it in and tapped it out with a chisel and hammer.

Lol the headers just fall in too. This would be the easiest installation when the truck was new.
