Wasn't there an updated design of tube that put the dipstick at a better angle or something? Digging deep in my memory, but maybe it was mentioned in a thread about the dipstick being burned halfway down where it was nearest the exhaust manifold. I believe that was a thread by @Doubeleive.

Lucky bastard!!!! Good job!!!!!

That's what I said as soon as it happened. Hahah felt so lucky. Initially, I was using a tap for a screw and nut I bought. Was going to build kind an extraction tool.

Then on the 2nd turn of the tap, the dipstick fell all the way through the hole and was holding on the tap by literally a thread. I was able to just barely get it out before the tap fell off. That's when I went to the lag bolt + tap out method. Soaked it in Kroil and tapped away.

Some guy showed a video of him doing it using a frickin torch. I was like no way I am lighting a damn torch near my oil pan. I understand it's not gasoline, but still.

Not aware of the thread you are referring to, but yes, somewhere between 2008 and 2013 they changed the dipstick tube. Moved it closer to the front of the motor.

ya I replaced my tube and stick, supposedly it's bent slightly different than the original design, mine came out and went in easy peasy, I still wrapped the tube with reflective heat tape near where it passes by the manifold, still gets hot right in the same place but not as much unless i'm driving it pretty hard, they should have left it where it was on the nbs

Wouldn't a NBS tube and stick fit and work? I can't fathom any reason why not.

not sure I think maybe the hole is in a different location? I don't remember if I checked or not, but I can check tomorrow
I am pretty sure I compared the sticks and they were different length

It wouldn’t have been a big deal if it fell into the oil pan but would probably drive you nuts like it did when that happened to me. Theres no way for it to go through the screen on the end of the pickup tube even if it was to get past the windage tray which it probably wouldn’t. Mine was like that for a week until it drove me crazy and I dropped the pan. I found it on top of the windage tray.
