I have a 2004 Tahoe 6 disc cd changer dvd all that jazz. I have researched and researched so now I'm going to ask, can I replace the head unit with an aftermarket and still retain all the options, middle row console, onstar, dvd, and steering wheel constrols or am I stuck sending this one off to be fixed or replaced with OE? :hmmm2: Thanks in advance.

We will need to know if your rig has the Bose stereo or not.

2004 OnStar is obsolete, isn't it?

I haven't seen a way to keep the rear controls (headphone jacks?) working. I guess OEM allowed the rear seat to have a completely different source, I haven't really seen a aftermarket that will do that, at least easily. I know many video screen units have a second source output though, but i haven't seen anyone actually even try to get the headphones to work ever.

Steering wheel controls is easy with an adapter, usually you can get one for the Bose or non-Bose with this built in or part of a kit.

DVD system-you'll have to ask somebody that has that lol

yes, it's been mentioned here plenty times. you can use http://www.metraonline.com/ for your specific application.

For example, the http://www.metraonline.com/part/GMOS-014 retains RSE under certain conditions.

so how exactly would the RSE continue to work with an aftermarket unit? mine turns on, but how would you change sources? most aftermarket units only do one source. i am not including video systems for this discussion. honestly i've never tried the headphones, maybe they still work albeit just on that source. somebody swapped the radio for a sony before i got it. all the bose/steering wheels buttons etc work, and i know the rear unit turns on to do climate control. but i havent had a need to listen to the same source with headphones lol. obviously, i don't have DVD system.

Yes it is the Bose stereo. I think because of the kids I am going to try and have this one fixed or find a OE replacement. I will look into the site you suggested. Thanks.

my onstar still works (says something when i push the button) but isn't the service obsolete since it was analog back when these were manufactured?

I don't know if the obsoleted it or not. The new GM vehicles still use it don't they? I don't use the service so I don't know anything about it.

I think the 02 onstar is obsolete. My 06 onstar still works.

05+ Onstar still work. Anything before that will not connect. The issues is when the cellular carriers switched from an analogue system to digital. The older Onstar transceivers where analogue. However the newer digital transceivers will plug and play with the older units (this may only work back to 03) to upgrade, and allow the service.
