Sub and amp question

It has been a long time since I have put a stereo system in anything, Decided to put one in the Tahoe from various components I had available. I have a Fosgate power series 351M mono amp and I have a single Fosgate P2 12 sub SVC 8 OHM will these be compatible? I know the amp is more powerful then the sub but will it even work?

that amp may fall short driving 8 ohms you need 4 to 2 ohm loads unless amp states 1 ohm
stable. i would get a svc 4 ohm sub or a 8 ohm dvc and wire it in paralle to get the 4 ohm
load.

well if u have an decent o-scope u can set gain on the amp to match rms but i would get another p2 ohm

If you ran that setup you'd only be running roughly 90 watts to that sub... not much. Specs say that sub handles 150-400 rms. I myself would find a 2 ohm SVC or a 4 ohm DVC and run in parallel to get 2 ohm load to acheive the 350 watts

Thanks for all the info... I decided to go ahead and install them got everything hooked up but sub wasn't working, amp is on so I checked my speaker wire conn at sub box the polarities are correct so I wiggled the wires a lil and got a big arch and sub bounced for a split sec and stayed extended, unhooked one wire and the sub retracted did it a couple times with same results so now the question is do I have a bad sub or bad amp? They were both working when pulled from seperate cars but they have been on my shelf for over a year

Only thing I can think of is make sure you don't have power or ground cables for amp touching terminals or wire on sub outputs on amp.

I had that one time when putting a sub into my single cab ford and had my head right by sub and it went full power & full bore at what I"d estimate 40hz... had to clean my pants after that one..

Yeah I went through and double checked the wiring nothing is touching, I haven't seen anything like it... I'm no expert by any means but I've put in a few amp/subs before and never ran across a prob like this

Could be internal on the amp than?

My buddy just put 2 Sundown subs and I think a Skar mono amp in his Superduty. He's done multiple systems in his vehicles and got it all hooked up. Hooked up his battery and turned the key and amp went up into flames. Luckily his dad was in the back seat right away and ripped it out and threw it to the ground.

Not even a day old amp and he surely got a new one. No problems so far though!
