Sub positions for 01 tahoe?

Alright so ive got a 2001 tahoe and im wantin to put two 10 inch subs in it. I want the best sound possible without any space or features taken up. Such as, cargo space or the ability to fold down seats. I was thinking like where the factory sub is. Except put a 10 inch and on the other side to the same. Is this possible has anyone done this? If so pics would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best way to run dual 10's without taking up any space and without having to modify alot would probably be a box under the 2nd row seats... thats what im working on now....

Yea but if he still has to retain seat fold then he needs to do something in the rear.. the stock hole wont fit a 10 , and DEF wont fit a 10 worth a shit without fab work.. i mean.. you can cut that panel to pieces and make a box the only comes out of it slightly.. but that means hacking the side panels to shit.. IMO suck it up.. a ten inch speaker can go in a 12x8 box and just run it across the whole back of the seat side to side.. so its only 12 inches tall and 8 inches deep.. OR.. build a box that both tens fit in that sits up snugly to one side of the rear.. youre only looking at an area the size of a shoe box.. not much to give up to achieve good sound.. and doen right can still look very clean.

A sub in the passenger side wouldn't fit unless you remove the rear hvac unit

How much fab/modding are you willing to do to accommodate subs with your requirements?
Here's what I did to keep as much space as possible. This is a pr of 12" Alpine Type-R subs in a metal/mdf enclosure in the floorboard (has to sit off-center due to the fuel filler neck). Subs have about 1.5 cu.ft. each and I lost hardly any cargo space.

Thanks guys.. I like the clean look of under seat box and the custom look of JKmotorsports. I wasnt planning on doing this myself. I'm getting ideas and going to take them to a car audio professional.

Well .. Down firing.. sealed.. shallow mount subs sound like shit.. imo.. give us another week to get skylers underseat box built and we might have a better plan for that.. but you will lose seat fold down on any underseat build.. so .. theres that downfall.

Could build a custom box in the factory location, that is what i did and it sounds great.. i am extremely pleased and i and a sound snob.. Klipsch in my home media center.. hole nine yards.. and this simple 10" i have sounds amazing...

well, I wouldnt say small sealed downfiring sounds bad, each vehicle has to install for what it has space for.

You want dual 10's, but don't want to loose any space.

To get what you want, you have to compromise a little.
You either loose some space, or replace factory 8" sub with shallow mount, which means less output, or have a prefab box you can unplug on a whim and take out when you need to pack the cargo area.


Under the rear seat is one way, or a major transformation like Jeff's ( which I LOVE that idea)

Its just how much do you really want, and how much do you want to spend.

To have any kind of sub bass sound, unless willing to completely mod your interior, you may have to sacrifice space ( a little ) you can always remove a sub box if hauling any items in the back storage area. Un like what others may have said, a sealed enclosure, DOES sound good for sub bass, and have a reduced size box, taking up space. I can appreciate the sound coming from a couple of 10's, if you want tight accurate bass then go with that in a sealed box, For a bit louder, more of boom sound (pending on music you listen to), then go with ported box, though bigger in size. I personaly use on 13-inch race track shaped sub, in a sealed box, does not take up that much space, and sounds incredible. When I know I'll be needing the space, I just take it out and leave it at home temporarily. Amps are mounted under the 2nd row seating out of the way.
