Guys,

New to the forum and did a little searching, but it seems like everyone is talking lowering/lifting their rides....I'm just looking for recommendations as to a good aftermarket shock for factory replacement. My 'hoe has about 50K on it an is starting to show in the ride quality.

I'm assuming it has Bilstein's on it from the factory? I know they make a good shock, just open for suggestions, but also not looking to break the bank!

I have toyed around with the idea of lowering the rear an inch or two to match up with the front. what is the most reliable, cost effective way to do this? I'm fairly certain I don't have autoride.

Thanks.

drop coils will do the rear, and yes, Bilsteins work great, IMHO.

welcome to the forum!

Is your Tahoe Air Ride? If so, you have to go with OEM. Also, if you are Air Ride, they are supposed to last for a long time. Might want to ask the dealer

Thanks guys. Is there a VIN search on this site that I could check to see if my 'hoe has air ride. Like I said, I really don't think it does, but I've also never had it loaded down to force it to "level out."

This is assuming it works like the Caddy my parents used to have.

Also, if I go with drop coils in the rear, I would assume that I cannot simply get factory replacement shocks?

Suggestions on where to by/what brand of coils?

if looking for coils, see vendors on right, they'll hook you up!

Look in your glove box for the Z55 code I believe this is still the code for autoride. Or for a sure way to tell look under your truck if you have autoride you will have orange shocks if not they will be blue.

Thanks 05Yuk, I'll check it out today.

It seems that most people like the factory Bilstein's??? Or is there an "upgraded" Bilstein over factory?

I have a very reputable muffler/suspension shop that sells Monroe and swears by them. I have had other work done there and trust them for their word. Anyone have any experience with any other brands?

I put the bilsteins on my 02 suburban the after market ones are much better than any factory shock. The factory shocks on these trucks aren't bilsteins. I have heard that people like the KYB shocks as well. Iam not a fan of monroe personally.
