Anyone seen this event occur before? With 43k miles my service advisor said it will not be covered; as I have an oil change next weekend and called to ask about it. The motor aspect works proper, its just not "rolling" up under the headliner.

He said unless I have extended coverage it would not be covered.
Ever consider sidestepping him / going over his head?
Or am I wrong here, thinking that there's something ... very incorrect about
what your so-called service advisor is 'advising'?

'cause, somehow, I don't think you broke it.

Since you are out of your 3yr/36k bumper to bumper you’re on your own. :-(

Never heard of it happening but guessing the spring broke that rolls it up.

I'll see how it plays out this coming Saturday. Think I should consider taking the headliner off and see what im up against or just have the dealership fix it? No idea cost wise what I might be up against here. Cant be too time consuming/complex to fix.

Assuming your interior color is "Atmosphere" the part is apparently P/N 84854220 (but check w/ your dealer).
Looks like it can be had sub $200 from online parts places, or $250 retail.
Almost looks like a window shade type deal, so guessing the spring broke or a pin in the end broke...if the motor still runs and it tries to retract...my gut is on the cover itself.
That said...it is key to get it aligned, I would think...
Scariest part probably dropping the headliner, but that is likely a trim tool and some connectors, maybe a few screws around the handles, console, trim pieces, etc.
You seem pretty mechanically inclined...then again, if part is $250, and its 1 hr or less labor...I might be inclined to let the dealer do it. Another possibility is a good body shop, they do this stuff all the time, may be a bit less than the dealer.

Good luck.

Yeah, the motor is proper, feels like there is a roller that when you open/retract the privacy cover it wraps around said roller. I will honestly say that I WILL assume that this event was caused by: here

2.8hrs for labor. He suggested I just buy the part (since cheaper) and bring it in. He said once they have it opened up and seeing what's going on, he can speak with GMC to see if they will cover the labor cost. I feel that is a sales men tactic to get a sale.
