... There are two types of sc's, centrifugal and roots type.... .
Actually, three types of s/c. Centrifugals, roots, and twin-screws. Roots and twin-screws are very similar in design, but operate slightly different on the inside on the way they draw and discharge the air. Twin screws don't produce as much heat as roots blowers do, but they rob slightly more power because it has internal compression ratio unlike the roots. Whipples are twin-screws, Magnachargers are roots style, and Paxton, ATI, Vortech are examples of centrifugals.

BTW, the pic shows a centrifugal s/c. You can see the gear drive housing on the backside of the unit towards the top left. The year is wrong, but judging by the intake tube, it's for a TBI motor.

Any difference in performance?? Those centrifugals seem to be cheaper used than the roots/twin screw. Or i just haven't looked hard enough.

Pro Charger is famous for that look...lemme dig up a pic

It'd be easier to tell if they had some better pictures though

Positive displacement units (twin screws and roots) provide all of its boost throughout most of the entire rpm range. Centrifugals build boost as rpms climb, so their off-idle/low rpm boost is usually very low.
Also, centrifugals need to be tapped into the engine's oil system to provide lubrication for the s/c. Roots and twin-screws don't. Whichever s/c is chosen, the fuel system needs to be upgraded and re-tuning is a must.

Sorry about the wrong info, I stand corrected!! I didn't notice the pulley when I saw the pic this morning!

This. The difference between a turbo and sc is the turbo is driven by exhaust and a sc is belt driven off of your crank. A sc has more immediate response then a turbo because the turbo has to wait to get the results of the throttle inputs until after the combustion cycle has completed. There are two types of sc's, centrifugal and roots type. A centrifugal looks just like a turbo, but with a pulley on the outside of the housing to put an engine driven belt onto. Ask for more pictures to make sure that this is, indeed, a sc. I don't suggest buying this stuff without personally inspecting it though. You need to find out things like pulley wobble and shaft wobble.

ehhh. a s/c does not necessarily have a more immediate response.

1: 'responsiveness' is a function of the turbine sizing and AR on a turbo. For a positive displacement s/c it is is a function of how quickly the electromechanical clutch engages, or the compressor bypass closes, while centrifugals even then don't make full boost until redline... blech. they have no response :)

A porperly sized turbo will give you full boost form immediately off idle to redline, something only a roots style blower can do. Unlike a roots style blower however, you are not locked into one boost level per pully size, nor low boost. it also won;t suck up 30-40 hp out of boost unlike a supercharger.
