No problem going back to regular oil, but I can tell you without a doubt that it's not good to switch to a synthetic on a high mileage engine. I've seen oil leaks and oil consumption start after switching to synthetic. Will it it happen on your truck or every motor? Who knows, but I've seen it happen. Synthetics are better. AMG, Porsche, etc. don't use or recommend synthetics because they get paid to say it. The upside to the cost is longer drain/fill intervals. I change the E55, SLK55, and now the Tahoe at 5K instead of 3K and I'm sure they could go much longer. The cheapest synthetic beats the shit out of the best regular oil. Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Castrol, even Pennzoil, you can't go wrong.

I run RP in my '**, my Ram and my Bonneville. I'd like to make the switch in the tranny and front and rear ends as well but just can't afford that. It gets spendy buying that much so I pick up a couple of quarts each pay day and just stock pile them. I like the protection I get, we have cold winters so I fell the RP is a plus there. I do trust the RP folks when they say I can go longer on an oil change so I do. By going longer it ends up not being much more expensive than other oils plus I get the added protection.

Yeah, don't bother replacing the fluids in the differential(s) and tanny if there is still good fluid in it. My Denali just hit 90K a couple weeks ago so once 100K hits I'm going to be doing all my fluids. Rear diff, front diff, tranny, and check out the ignition components and maybe flush the radiator.

My Ram has just under 100K miles and the '** is over that so if I had deep pockets I'd like to replace it all to help with longevity and reduce parasitic drag, but since I don't they'll stay status quo. Although even if they had less miles and I had the coin I still would for the same reasons.

Yeah well like you said, just nickel and dime it and pick up a couple quarts here and there, grab up a tranny filter and a gasket at some point, whatever.

I replaced the front diff, rear end, and transfer case with Amsoil and RP and it was about $100. That was at around 110k. Since then I have put on 6k miles or so. I don't notice a diffance but I feel better knowing I changed it because it was effing bad. The front diff had metal shavings all over. There is a magnetic drain plug and that thing was hella dirty with shavings. I use Mobil 1 and have not had a problem. I think I will do my tranny fluid and filter soon. Probably with amsoil because I figure I will only have to do it once.

Yeah, thats not too bad. Both diffs and transfer case all together is probably only like what, 10-11 quarts of fluid if that? I'm personally excited to switch over all my fluids. I expect to notice a little bit of a difference. Not necessarily performance-wise, but I expect it to be smoother and maybe sound a little smoother as well. It may even get me a little more MPG who knows. Not that it matters to me, but it's interesting to see the differences a little TLC for your drivetrain will do.

Havent had to change the **'s oil yet since we bought it but I will be using Synthetic. Wish I could find out what was run in it. Either way, I'll be looking for some german Castrol Syntec IF IT STILL EXIST. This was THE oil circa 2006 iirc. Tried it in my TA but it was too thin for that motor. Anyways, heres a really informative site about oil:

I've been using Royal Purple since my racing days. I never had any issues with it. Once I got the Hoe, RP went in it and it's had it ever since.
