if i go ahead and do this, what does it do to my alignment?

Your camber will become affected mainly. The toe will also, but not as significantly as the camber. The lower you go, the more you put the wheels in negative camber. Lifting will put the wheels into positive camber. When the control arms are moved up and down, this also changes the angle of the tie rods, although it is very minimal. And when that happens, the distance between the centerlink and steering knuckle changes, affecting the toe. If you don't have a problem with abnormal tire wear now, you will afterwards if you don't get it re-aligned.

Say a person is 1 inch off. Raising one side 1/2 inch and lowering the other 1/2 would cancel out the toe changes (with a tiny shift of the steering wheel to off center), wouldn't it?

When the shop aligned mine after cranking it up (against my wishes) the toe was the only thing out of spec.

why would the weight of the driver have anything to do with it? who can see the outside of their car while they're sitting inside anyway?

my thought was, that 5 years of weight being distibuted to one side of the truck more then the other is what made it sag on the driver side
