So here is a curious thing. Many if not all of these clones have power supply deficiencies that cause the tool to reset if the vehicle is restarted. To overcome this some, myself included, have separately powered the tech 2 using the port on the tech 2 ifself along with the cigar lighter power cable that comes with the set. I use a wholly separate power source, not the ac adapter but a battery booster jump box with aux power outlet.
I have a little ac to 12 volt dc supply with a cig lighter socket that works nice.

Some additional information from this mornings testing. The supplied cigarette adapter and cord is trash. The tool end plug is crap. I have a different one that works better. With power supplied at the OBD end of the cord I power up the tech2 and allow it to boot to the start screen before connecting to either vehicle. When I am using the candi and plug into the OBD port on the truck the tech2 instantly recognizes the candi and as far as I can tell from my limited testing it works ok. I didn’t try pulling vehicle information for sps tho.
Without the candi on the envoy the same is true. If I allow the tech2 to boot to the start screen before connecting to the truck all seems good. I did pull information for sps this morning and near the end the UNKNOWN DRIVER and gauge drop occurred but no U codes were stored. Not sure I would trust it not to brick something…

Do note that there exists a difference between using the ac adapter at the DLC cable end vs using it on the tech 2 itself
I used to use the power connector on the Tech2 for programming but that connector came loose inside and became unreliable and that’s when I found out about the one on the DLC cable so I’ve been using that one. I never had issues with the one on the TECH2 until it became loose but never read the instructions either so I didn’t know there could be an insufficient ground. Got to know. I was just glad there was another option once the first one became flaky. I had the power wire taped to the Tech2 so it wouldn’t move and lose power in the middle of flashing a module. :)
