I personally think the Vortec are more reliable just because they have maximized to an extent what the short block can do. They are certainly more efficient at their work.

Also the 350 is still used today in various forms of transport including boats. Other companies manufacture them to. The 350 is actually used in the Oscar Meyer Winer Mobile and I believe were also used in the starting carts for the SR-71 aircraft at one point. They are everywhere and can be bored to become a 383.
