Yeah, the amount of time spent idling, with accessories cranked (a/c, heat, lights, etc..) seems like they’re not well suited for that duty.

After FIVE hundred miles! Hopefully with a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds, a radio, and a 500 mile range, the police will be able to catch/do what they need to. Then they can enjoy a donut or bagel at the super charger for 20 minutes while they "fill their tank" with electricity. After 500 miles, anyone would need a break, lol.

It gets 500 miles under ideal conditions ie freeway driving. City driving, and any high acceleration especially, considerably shortens the range. Probably more like 200 miles and then it has to spend time charging instead of being available for the next shift like a normal police vehicle. And no pursuits or it’s over real quick. Not practical imo.

exactly what I was going to post. if they say 500 miles, then in the rear world you might as well cut that in half. Kinda like how manufacturer's state what MPG a vehicle should get. They never get that good of mpg in the rear world.

The flip side ....I've been stuck in traffic for literally hours moved maybe 5 miles and was still on all battery charge. My pos plug in hybrid only has like a 30 mile all electric range. Whether it takes me 20 minutes to do those 30 miles and the battery is dead or it takes 6 hours it lasts that long

My daughters Cruze does the same thing, only it’s not hybrid. It’s got that auto stop feature. Can’t even tell when the engine stops and starts.

I was told the federal standard for new car MPG estimate is REALLY an estimate. Up in the California high desert around Barstow, ( about 20 yrs ago), the formal testing for "highway mileage" was on a long straight..... No other traffic.
47 miles an hour. ( I can imagine the UAW fought for that version of a test)

They also back then modified the formula to determine octane levels. ( Octane is not as high as it used to be if they go by the "old" formula.)

Me, personally, I'll take HP over MPG any day..... MPG can be adjusted a bit by how you use the peddle.
